CUNY CREST HIRES Director, Dr. Shakila Merchant attended the American Society of Civil Engineers Gala that celebrated Cities of the Future: a giant-screen film experience held at the Brooklyn Tech High School in New York, NY on May 18, 2024.
The ‘Cities of Future’ revolves around future world vision concepts. The film helps civil engineers to ‘lead the future’s infrastructure ideas, based on real engineering data and principles.’ A glimpse of the trailer is available here.
During the event, Dr. Merchant participated in activities such as various engineering lab visits. She also interacted with several BTSS students and potential college students who were very much interested in CUNY HIRES summer program.
Commenting on her experience of the event and the part she enjoyed the most, Dr. Shakila Merchant said, “BTSS is an exemplary model of K12 education and college readiness efforts, where students hone their skills as early STEM professionals and build technical skills desirable for STEM careers. Building partnership with American Society for Civil Engineers is another great model of learning and engaging students in engineering education, thus bridging the STEM gaps that still persist in secondary education.”
